There are many benefits to volunteering with Let’s Talk Science:
- giving back to the community
- improving your teaching, communication, and presentation skills
- promoting your area of research in the community
- having the opportunity to act as a mentor/positive role model for students
- boosting your resume (NSERC and CIHR are national sponsors of Let’s Talk Science and are therefore familiar with the organization!)
- most importantly, having fun exploring science with kids!
All of this comes with a minimal time commitment – just two visits to a classroom per school year (which could take as little as 8 hours of your time, or more if you prefer!).
We want to make volunteering easy! It's great, and sometimes more fun, if you can come up with your own activities. However if you are short on ideas or time, we have a number of pre-made kits and activities that you can borrow. Many were developed at our site and specifically for the Alberta curriculum. E-mail the site coordinators at ltspp@ualberta.ca for details.
If you're sold on the program, just send us an email. We can answer any questions you may have. email: ltspp@ualberta.ca
